I'm excited about my tour to South Africa in April 2011. I've organized it with the help of Odette Tolksdorf, a well known South African textile artist who organizes tours for Nancy Crow. We've planned a truly exciting and unforgettable 15 days in South Africa - where I was born and grew up - and we'll visit places such as Soweto, to see Mandela's original home, a painted Ndebele village, visit a women's embroidery collective, stay in the Drakensberg to see Bushman cave paintings, visit exceptional craft galleries, museums and shops, stay in a traditional Zulu village, overnight in the oldest game preserve in Africa and experience the magic of night time game viewing. We'll leave KwaZulu Natal and fly to Cape Town where we'll ferry to Robben Island where Mandela was held for 23 years, see the stunning scenery of the Cape winelands and visit more craft collectives.

This is just a small sampling of what we'll do. Cost of the tour is $6350 excluding airfares.

Kate Madeloso Wins Quilt Canada 2010 Awards

"A Lovely Night for a Moontrance" won a Judge's Choice award in the Trend Tex Challenge. http://www.canadianquilter.com/photo-gallery/trend-tex-quilters-challenge-2010.php

Kate also received a certificate for winning a spot in the National Juried Show along with the judge's critique, which was excellent to get some professional feedback. They have printed a catalogue book of all the pieces accepted into the NJS and "The Tree That Was Me" appears on page 20.

Sending out a special hello to Hilary Rice of Corner Brook Newfoundland. For some unknown technical reason, Hilary did not appear on the list of SDA members in Atlantic Canada. Exhibition Opportunity for SDA Members

SDA is renting booth space at Convergence (July 18-25, in Albuquerque) and the Houston Quilt Festival (Nov 4-7) and for a $100 fee, is allowing members to have a three-hour window to do demos of techniques, process, books, DVDs or simply show their own work. Mentorship on any of these these is available. It's a great collaborative effort for both SDA members and the organization as a whole. As Seen with the Listening Heart

Two Sheets to the Wind

Two of my framed landscapes, "Two Sheets to the Wind" and "As Seen with the Listening Heart" are featured in Lark books publication "500 Art Quilts" which will be on newstands in Feb. It is a beautiful book with gorgeous textile pieces! As they say, " A feast for the eyes". I would recommend it to everyone!

Also, two of my quilts and a landscape were featured on the Canada AM broadcast from Atlantic Canada House at Granville market on Feb.26th.

Atlantic SDA Members at Unity & Diversity Exhibition in South Korea
